#1 on 50 Things About Korea – Kimchi (김치)

Among all the things about Korea, Kimchi has definitely got to be number one. It’s like the first thing that comes to my (if not everyone’s) mind if  Korea is mentioned. A staple food for Koreans, kimchi is directly referred to as ‘pickled vegetables’. Unlike most of other countries where veges are only pickled with salt, Koreans add chili powder and fish sauce too among other ingredients. By doing so, it gives kimchi a special taste (or ‘weird’ taste for first timers!), but they say it’s healthy, so get use to the taste. In time, it’ll taste like everything else. 🙂

I’m proudly a Malaysian. But since I’m a Korean at heart (lol), making kimchi is definitely something that I must try. The main reason is because I love everything Korean, and I tried to be as Korean as I can (if only that’s possible! haha) but most importantly is that I can’t find kimchi in the supermarket near my place. Even though recently they started selling the kimchi, I wasn’t even tempted to buy it. Until now, I’ve made kimchi about 3 times already and thank Allah, the taste got better by the time the third batch is finished. Well, that’s only according to me and my friend’s taste buds. Hehe. I’m sure if any Koreans eat my kimchi, they’d feel weird about the taste too.

Anyway, there are A LOT of vegetables that can be made into kimchi. The most common is the napa cabbage, which I always use. Cabbage kimchi or baechu kimchi (배추 김치) is also the type of kimchi that’s always featured in Korean dramas. So it’s not your fault if you think of cabbage when kimchi is mentioned. It’s like a generalization. 🙂 Just so you know, radish and cucumber can also be made into kimchi.

If you ask me, the first time I taste kimchi, it did taste weird. And to add to that, I never like sour food. But just like I mentioned before, get use to the taste and one day you’ll find it manageable. But up until now, I can’t eat kimchi on its own. I have to cook it in chigae (soup), fried it with rice or as a side dish with plain hot rice.

Bet I’ll be eating LOADS of kimchi in Seoul. Looking forward to that. ♥

[me2day] me2day Desktop Client(me2dc)

I know the restriction to “enjoy” Mitu is because it is a web-based application. But fret not, chinguya. You can actually download the desktop application and it is much easier than logging in to the web. Similar to Twitter, Mitu users have developed this application for our ease of use. And having using it for a few weeks now, I think “me2day Desktop Client” or me2dc is something that WE REALLY NEED in order to make use of Mitu (and actually enjoying it).

If you are an avid user of Twitter, you must be familiar with applications such as “DestroyTwitter”,”TweetDeck”, “Twitterrific” et cetera that let you login to Twitter without using the web. For Mitu however, I have only found one such application and that is me2dc. Installing and using it is so simple as I will show you now.

You can download the application here. Then look for the installer as shown in the screen shot below:

me2dc(As I was browsing, I found another download link to the application. Apparently, this one is more current – updated on March 12,2009. The previous one,as shown above was  in 2008. So, alternatively you can also download the application here).

Once you clicked the download link, you’ll see this window on your screen. Please proceed as usual.

After you have finished installing the application, you should start opening the installer package. And then you’ll be prompted with the dialog box as shown below:

Now that you have clicked the login button, you will be brought to the me2day web page (as shown below). All you have to do is click a button there. The next screen shows that your registration is successful.

Now, go to the me2dc window again, and clicked on the button. Once you clicked it, you’ll see your mitu page there.

Please explore the application yourself, as hands-on experience really helps. A. LOT. Just to show you what you can do, the last screen shot is how MY own Mitu-me2dc  page looks. I’ll share or update some more about how to make use of me2dc later.

Till then, have fun with your me2dc!! Annyeong!! ♥ ♥ ♥

feat. Super Junior (슈퍼주니어)

people who are not familiar with korean entertainment scene might ‘die of heart attack’ if i tell them the number of members in this famous korean boy band. lol. get this; there are THIRTEEN members altogether. 13, i tell you! rotfl. i too, was shocked when i knew about this, i found it rather absurd to have that many people performing on the stage together. but, to my own surprise too, i’m loving them more each day. all 13 of them. for further read: click here. yup, wikipedia has abundant info on them. so, let’s not be redundant now, shall we? 🙂

Super Junior (SuJu) had just come out with their 3rd album, ‘Sorry,Sorry,Sorry’ which is currently on repeat mode in my playlist. i was sceptical at first, thinking it’s not going to be good, which was exactly what i thought the first time i heard the song. but after their ‘comeback stage’ on KBS’ music bank, i took back my words. and their performance..? wow. yup, that’s what they did. they ‘wow’ed me alright. more than 10 people performing together, singing and dancing, well…nobody can outdone SuJu i guess.

prior to their latest album, due to the many members of the group, their management company, SM Entertainment had divided them into subgroups [well, this is only possible in south korea, i guess] namely Super Junior KRY, Super Junior T(rot), Super Junior M(andarin) and Super Junior H(appy). i was only familiar with SuJu H, because of their catchy single ‘Cooking, Cooking’.

but the one thing that made me love this group even more is because of the movie “Attack On the Pin-Up Boys“.. lol. just thinking about the movie, i got excited. the storyline is so absurd, but funny at the same time. and given all those cute faces in one movie [minus Eeteuk and Kyuhyun], this light movie is one that you should see if you’re looking for a good laugh [but in a disgusting way, mind you]. rotfl.

if someone were to ask me which group member is my favourite, i really can’t name only one. i love heechul, for his cuteness, sometimes for his ‘bad boy’ image and the fact that he’s so funny. i like shindong, because of his awesome dance moves [despite the fact that he’s the chubbiest in the group] and he’s also funny. kang-in for his voice, hangeng for his cute korean accent [he’s the only Chinese member], donghae for his ‘Yul-goon’-like face [read:Goong’s Prince Yul] and others for various reasons.

in 2008, SuJu came to Genting Highlands, Malaysia to receive their MTV Awards for Favorite Korean Artist. hehe, i liked all nominations for that category; Big Bang, Wonder Girls, SNSD. but was satisfied SuJu won nonetheless.

now, time for some SuJu [not soju!] ..enjoy!

my current addiction.
my driving companion.

this is wheesung’s cover version of craig david’s insomnia, which in my opinion done brilliantly. then again as a ‘korean freak’ like me, anything korean will always please my ears. however you really have to watch him [wheesung] performs this song, or watch his music video. he left me smiling, watching how cool he looks. *wink*

i have successfully downloaded the mv. and loving it everytime i watch him dance to the music. omonaaaa..now he’s making me imsomniac!

wheesung oppa, 사랑해!!

byebye BOF :(

much loved Boys Over Flower has ended its run. huhu. so sad. even though in Malaysia we still get to see F4+Jandi in action@KBS World, but the feeling’s different now that it’s over in Korea. i used to log on to dramabeans every Tuesday to read the latest episode recap. and after this, i don’t get to do that anymore. *teary eyes*

i’m so happy with the ending, and totally agree with javabeans’ points. the ending didn’t feel rushed, kinda flowing smoothly. though i was ‘a bit’ disappointed, hoping there would be more mushy-mushy stuff between JP and JD.. [give me a break, ok.. it’s the LAST episode, so i think fanservice is acceptable!] lol.

for old time’s sake, here’s T-Max’s Almost Paradise. enjoy~

restriction/구속_-_fly to the sky

i must say, upon watching Fly To The Sky’s performance on KBS’ Music Bank [can’t remember which episode], i fell in love with Hwanhee on.the.spot. i have to admit, i’m really digging this ‘bad boy’ image, you know. but, who doesn’t, right? just look at Big Bang’s T.O.P. for instance. aigooo~~ mysteriously intriguing! anyway, back to Hwanhee, his voice is so darn husky and sexy i could die if someone were to sing to me like that. oh, need i say more about the dance moves? omona..he’s killing me!! [btw, brian’s not bad too. :)]

it’s sad to know that they are splitting up after this album. in fact they have performed [or will be performing] their last stage act as a duo, Fly To The Sky. their voices really complement each other, and i regret that i only realize their ‘existence’ after “Recollection” [their album before Decennium]. Hwanhee will pursue solo career and Brian’s gonna be an actor.

i won’t be posting his photos here, because seriously, there’s none that shows his ‘bad boy’-ness among all the photos i found in google or msn. you really have to watch their performance, singing Restriction, in order to understand what i’m talking about.

anyway, this is my utmost favourite song of their last album, Decennium. Fly To The Sky’s Restriction.
